Benefits of Water Filtration Systems

Positive Health Benefits come from filtering your home's water. Removal of lead and chlorine are common goals. All water filtration systems have specific methods of action.

These can include:

  • Physical Barrier
  • Chemical Process
  • Biological Process
  • UV Light
  • A Combination of the Above

Installing a whole house filtration system or a single-point filtration system in your kitchen is far more cost effective and environmentally friendly than having water delivered to your home.

Removing chlorine, lead, minerals, and bacteria are the common reasons people seek out water filtration in their home.

Types of Filtration Systems

  • Activated Carbon

This is the most common household water filter system. Activated Carbon Granules attract and trap chemical impurities through absorption. Carbon filters vary greatly in effectiveness and require regular maintenance. Some only remove chlorine to improve the taste and eliminate odors. Others remove common contaminants like lead, mercury, and volatile organic compounds. Activated carbon does not remove inorganic pollutants like fluoride, hexavalent chromium, nitrates and percholates.

Our plumbing experts will help you find a filtration system that meets your goals.

  • Reverse Osmosis

Osmosis is the process of one thing absorbing another. Reverse osmosis forces contaminated water through a membrane so that water passes through but the pollutants are left behind.

Reverse Osmosis systems use a tremendous amount of water - the amount can vary greatly from 3-20 times more water than they produce.

We recommend using reverse osmosis for cooking and drinking only.

  • Ion Exchange

Ion Exchange filters also soften water. They are designed to split apart atoms of pollutants to make ions and then trap those ions.  These filtration systems use sodium ions to trap contaminants and replace them with sodium ions like magnesium and calcium.

  • Distallation

This isn't really a filter. It is more a method of boiling the water to make steam - then capturing the steam and cool it back to water. Contaminants are left behind.
